I think you can only exchange it for another outfit.
If I order #23, could I send back the outfit she comes in and the book for a refund? I already have 2 dolls with that outfit/book and don't want a third version of it. If I could do that, I could save the money and buy the next outfit if they change it in the fall (less waiting time!). Has anyone ever done this? How would I go about doing it and how much of a refund would I get?

$26. I know there are many people on the board who would know details, but all I know is that the outfit is worth $26.
I have done this twice. Go to the customer service link on the AG website and click on "Download forms", then Merchandise Return form (or just click here). Print off this form, and fill in the outfit as a return (the product name is Ready for Fun Outfit for Dolls, the Product code is GMOG, Price is $26). I use code 61 - duplicate gift as the reason code. If you know what you want to purchase with the return (and you can get anything that is online or in the catalog - or even replacement parts if you know their codes), fill it in the "I am ordering" section. If you do this now, the form walks you through figuring out the differences in what you owe or what they owe you, and figuring out shipping costs. Shipping on these exchanges is only 5% of the cost difference, so it is definitely less money to do your exchange now than to use the money to order in the future.
I just put the entire outfit (you must include the pink hair thingy and the panties) in a Ziplock bag, then put the baggy and the return form into a box surrounded by packing peanuts, although it could probably be mailed in a large padded envelope as well; and send it to the address on the form. It has taken about 2-1/2 weeks for me to get my return both times.
Edited because I forgot the book! That must be returned in its original plastic sleeve - Product name is Friends Forever Booklet, Product Code is GTB-FF, and price is $6.00

thanks everyone! I'm hoping to order Harper within the next few weeks, so she gets here in time for our May Fair. I think I'm just going to get the money back and use it on my Italy trip, though.
I returned three each of the outfit and book recently, and was told they could only give me $24 and $4, not $26 and $6, because they came with a doll as opposed to being purchased seperately. No problem getting the refund, but I was a little confused and told them so because I had returned 2 of each a couple months ago and been given $26 and $6 each for credit.

I recently returned two outfits and the books and got a check in the mail for $52, the cost for both outfits. They did not give me a refund for the books, which kind of annoyed me. But after hearing Jeanette say in her post here that the books must be returned in the plastic sleeve, I don't think I did that. So maybe that's why.
